How do I make shims for repinning? (NOT Padlock Shims)

I've searched and the only answer seems to be to use aluminium cans but from what I´ve read they don´t work too well.
So is there any other suggestions?

I used to work for a company that would purchase rolls of shim stock from an aluminium supplier....then cut it to it's desired lengths.

That way they could have a long lasting supply.
