Thanks Scrub, I started to ask if anyone had the course for sale. I didn't want to see the normal flames to buy at locksmithshop.

Lockout Specialist course

Postby apb » 2 Dec 2006 22:07

I assume you are talking about the one from LBT locksmithing. I took the course not too long ago. It depends on where your level of experience is and whether your a hobbyist or looking for a job. He includes a manual, a set of lockpicks, two DVD's and a repinnable lock to use to follow along during the demonstrations. A lot of the book is about how to get into the lockout business. His main focus is on how to get into a mobile LOCKOUT business, primarily dealing with people locked out of their cars. He has good advice on some do's and don'ts and examples of mistakes he made. But like I said, its very heavy on the business end of it. The last chapter of the book is the MIT guide to LP'ing. As far as actual techniques for opening locks it literally is Lockpicking 101. If you are doing this as a hobby though, you may want to put your money toward a copy of LSS.

LSS is "Locks, Safes and Security: An International Police Reference", written by one of the foremost authorities in the field, Mr. Marc Webber Tobias.

It is quite possibily the most important reference work in the field to date. 40 chapters, 1400 pages across two volumes. Additionally an electronic version is also available.

More information can be found at: http://security.org

If you can afford it, and you are truely interested in the topic, I would recomend it highly.

I should have also mentioned that you will not receive any sort of diploma/certification when you finish the course because you are not "tested" on anything. I say this in contrast to other courses out there like foley belsaw and the like. You are encouraged to keep a line of communication going between you and the instructor if you have questions but you are not going to be a "certified" Lockout Specialist. I brought up the LSS because the prices between these two are about the same. I've got a copy of the LSS and you will be hard pressed to find anything out there with this much attention to detail concerning all aspects on the topic of locksmithing in general.
