Found Some Locks

Postby davidlh » 4 Dec 2006 21:43

So my dad was going through some boxes the other day and he found some old American locks. I was wondering if you guys could tell me something about em. (e.g. difficulty, security, etc...)

The Models are:

Series 570
Series 580
KC-40

you will* want to start with something that isnt fit for securing national treasure.

American locks are rather difficult. in fact, i have seen american locks with all serrated key pins, and all serrated-spool driver pins.

they are hard. some of our more experienced users (including myself) have trouble with them.

go buy a $10 kwikset.

They can be a bit tough at times. Once you get the feel for them, they are much easier. When I started out they were an unpickable lock for me. Now they seem like chicken feed most of the time. It all comes down to feel and experience.

Thank you very much for the pics. Like I said these are probably from 20 years ago. I have 4 of them so I'll probably take one apart just for the heck of it. :D

it seriously only false sets, ever. I'm starting to believe that with a key it would only false set. That's the lips I'm talking about.

BUT! Big news! Sitting at work today, I finally opened my American padlock. First time ever. Again, I credit LN21's tools with the opening.
