BS mortice on ali doors

Postby ponsaloti » 11 Dec 2006 11:24

The area i work in has a lot of properties with 20 year old ali doors fitted front and back, these are good doors that dont distort like the plastic double glazed units. X-mas is coming and the bandits are out in force. Iv`e been fresh fitting 3g114`s into these doors but recently i seem to be coming across some very narrow stile doors so iv`e fitted 220`s. Any ideas on what else i can fit instead of the monster 220, something that will keep nice mr insurance man happy.

Try the legge 5512 2" lock or assec equivelent, the assec is still bs3621-1998 and is a legge under the assec name, available from aldridges at around £7.50 each, half the price of it would be badged as legge, but same lock

I was told a couple of months ago by Aldridge that the Asec 2" had been discontinued so don't know if this means Legge have discontinued the 5511 too...

No. Not sure the Willenhall M8 will satisfy the insurers though...

Try jewsons as they used to keep the legge 2" as a stock item & if the one near you has none they will get them from other stores. Eddie

Im with Al on this one the 220 is a better lock. Why has the the 2" been discontinued,id asume it was something to do with the new BS standard and the bolt having to be too long to fit in the case ?

You could try fitting an actual Aluminium Door lock.

Something like an Adams Rite Hook Bolt with High Security Cylinder and Cylinder protector, as used on many shop doors.

will this keep insurance man happy

Only way to make insurance man happy is to give him plenty of money regularly, what makes him even happier is insuring things against events imporbable to the point of impossible such as protectibg your car against elephant stampedes.
