new 2 picking locks

a week ago i was watching a video on youtube about this guy picking a lock with nothing more than a paper clip and a screwdriver and now i am interested in lock picking but i have some questions i need answered...

1.is it really possible to pick a lock with just a paper clip and a screwdriver?

2. i have tried picking a lock (one u have to push those little things out of that line) but i cant do it..can anyone give me some advice on how to do it, i have read greg (whats his name) guid to picking locks but still have trouble.

i know these questions sound dumb, but im new to picking locks...thanks james

welcome to the forum.

paperclips are way too flexible to be useful in practical lockpicking. an expert picker can do it, but it's not very pleasant. maybe in a pinch if you get locked out and don't have your lockpicks with you. so, go buy some lockpicks. i'll recommend www.lockpicktools.com

yea im now going to buy a lock pick set, but its in america and before you buy internationaly you need to know if your state allows pick locks to be shipped in or something like that, i live in NSW australia..and im not sure if they are allowed to be imported into the state how can i find this out..

p.s greg millers guide is preety basic but its not complicated

Check out the MIT Guide to Lockpicking. It's stickied in a few places on this forum.

I don't know about australian law. In general, most places only criminalize possession if there is intent to commit a crime. But it's going to be hard asking anyone, like an officer or the post office, because they will assume lockpicks are illegal [as most people do], even if they are quite lawful around most of the world.

I know there are a few here from NZ who purchase lockpicks without issue. If your laws are anything like theirs, you should be fine.
