Wafer locks?

Postby Marcus8880 » 20 Jan 2007 23:38

Can someone explain what this lock is like? And is it possible to efficantly pick it with a rake pick instead of a wafer pick?

I know I've seen a better image, but this gives you the idea:

The wafers are the gold things. The key fits through the slot in the wafer, lifting it to a particular height so the outer part of the wafer retracts into the plug (against the pressure from the little spring), allowing the plug to turn freely.
They are easily opened with rounded-tip picks, so a snake rake will do the job.

Welcome, and do take your time to read through the existing info, it's really worth it.

Cheers,

You beat me to it mh. :)

To answer the other part of your question: Yes, you can rake these locks. I really don't recommended it because you may damage the soft wafers. If you do decide to rake, use a ball pick to reduce damage to the wafers.
