what if the pick won't fit?

Hi,

I am quite a newbie on lockpicking, but I try to practice on just about everything..
Only most door-locks I come across I simply cannot get my pick in so that I can still touch the pins..

I don't know what you call it but the front of a lock is not ( | ) but more like ( { ).. (I seriously hope I make sense here..)

But I just can't put my pick in in a way that'll keep me able to touch the pinns.. it's always in some curve..
How do I solve something like this? there's gotta be some way I asume...

This is referred to as warding (keyway bends), and it is designed to do what it is doing (making picking difficult). Whenever i encounter heavy wards, i usually end up modifying or making a new slim pick. If i was to guess, you have a S.O. pick set and the lock was a decent YALE or something??? If you have a slim hook/diamond, it may help, but i often pick on an angle (pick in keyway) as long as its not so much friction as to mar the lock inside or bend the pick. Robust rakes are very hard if not impossible to use, but a very mild (slim) home-made rake that imitates the 'computer generated' picks may help also.

I bought my pickset.. I simply do not have the tools to make them myself and I'm just an beginner....

I don't know if "CISA" is a brand, but if it is than that's what kind of lock it is

CISA is an Italian lock company (http://www.cisa.com). European locks traditionally have small keyways and you need 'Euro' or 'slimline' picks to manage in these tight spaces.

You could grind down an existing pick or consider buying from SouthOrd's Slimline line. Your tools really need to match the locks you are working on, so if you can't buy, make or modify slimmer picks maybe you should find a practice lock with a larger keyway.

Well I bought a pickset from lockpickersmall.com..
yes too expensive... But it's especially for european locks.. with extra thin picks..

wow, i just looked at the site Grudge mentioned. If the lock you are atempting to pick is part of this product line:

i would recommend starting on a much more simple lock. it seems that this company makes some pretty complex mechanisms. if you are new to picking, the recommended place to start is some cheap padlocks and deadbolts.

Also, you may have to hold your pick at an angle and work it in carefully. Additionally, try inserting the pick first, then the tension tool.

Wow, it's not a lock like that one!
it's a normal plain and simpel key.. no gaps on the sides or anything like what's shown on the website..
