High speed steal = Carbon steal?

Postby Durfoo » 28 Jan 2007 0:36

Well ive been wanting to make a set of picks for a while and get into lock picking and alomost all the blades i see are "high speed steal", but i havnt been able to find carbon steal hack saw blades ( which i hear are the best to use). So my question is are high speed steal blades as good as carbon steal?

I'm no pro at making em, I want to learn tho.

If you haven't I suggest you watch Pyros Video

I know he talks about Carbon Steel vs High Quality

I have heared that you want to use the cheep hacksaw blades. the better the steel the harder they are to shape.

I am no pro.

carbon stel hacksaw blades

You just need a cheap high carbon steel blade, the other blades are bi-metal blades. They are made of different layers of metal, these are not suitable for making decent picks. It is not really a matter of being harder to shape.

be careful though I once ruined a file trying to take off the teeth of a "high speed flexible" blade. A bench grinder did the job though.
