best place to buy files?

Postby honesthans » 4 Feb 2007 13:31

I'm espescially wondering if anyone knows where to get a cheap #4 cut pippin file on the internet?

Also, if a #4 cut is good for impressioning, is a #6 even better or does it cut too slowly at that point?

-Thanks!

I've been googling in my spare time for the past few days, and I haven't really found anything that was less than $50 after shipping. Do you happen to remember where you saw that $20 file?

If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Everyone who eats potatoes eventually dies. Therefore potatoes are poisonous.

Have you tried looking on e-bay? It seems that there is always one for sale, every 5 days or so. they will sell for 18-20 $$. If that is too much, wait for the next one.

Not sure if I can mention a seller, but look up 'pippin files'

you should see one or more, under " Locksmith" .

Thanks for all the tips.

I knew about the FB file before but had been holding out for a good price on the file made by Grobet, as I like to buy Swiss whenever I can. I ended up buying the FB file anyhow, since I had some other things I needed to get from them.

The file itself looks like it's the right, teardrop shape and it definitely has at least twice as many cuts as the other files I got with course. I saw a few websites for domestic companies that make Swiss cut pippin files while checking prices on the internet, so I guess it was supplied by one of them (the only mark on it is a '4' for the cut). Also, it only took a few days for FB to get it to me. Using a pippin file for impressioning is way easier than switching back and forth between the triangle and warding file, which is what I was having to do before.

I checked ebay once but didn't see anything. The lowest price I found for the Grobet made file was 34.50 from Lockmasters with free shipping. A company on Amazon is selling for a little less but with $12 shipping fees.
