Schlage problem

i am having a problem with my schlage interchangeable cylinder...i can no longer put the key in, or a blank... i dont know what kind of lock it is but i know it takes the e series key... i would greatly apperciate it if anyone could help at all

i shined a flashlight into the cylinder and nothing looks to be in it, i have been playing with it and got the key to go in but it still wont turn.

is it an extra pin or set of pins that allow the core to come out?..if so could i have messed up that pin?

have you eccessivly picked this lock??

is it a practice lock?

is it mounted in your door?

i cant put any pics up right now i dont have a digital camera, i tried to find a picture of it online but i dont really know what it is... i only picked this lock twice and it is mounted in a door but its not a lock i rely on at all.

you might have jambed one of master wafers between the core and the shell ive done this a couple of times myself from practicing on them to much and if you use a pick gun on them that really seems to push the wafers right out of the core.you can try tapping it lightly with the plastic part of a screwdriver and see if that works.one might have turned sideways in the core.

possibly its hard to tell when you jamb one up sometimes the key will work if you jiggle it but it will turn real hard thats how you know that you've jambed a wafer pin...........did you try to repick it maybe that will settle the pins back in line especially if you turned one sideways in the core.the best way to pick cores i found is with a hook pick one stack at a time.

thanks alot for your help, if i pick it i can open it but the key still doesnt work im going to try and take it out of the door and take it apart i just need to find something to use as a follower...i cant really mess it up anymore than it already is

i got it apart and put new pins in, i still don't know what was wrong but its fixed now just needs a different key...thanks for your help

master pins getting stuck between the plug and housing is the reason you never use a master pin smaller then a #2. Some times you need to spray some nice oil based lubricant in the key way. avoid graphite at all costs it will make your lock worst.
