So I started picking locks just recently, and my first lock was my friend's front door. I did that with relative ease after 10 minutes, and then moved on to a 50mm Brinks lock and a round stainless steel brinks one. I just bought today a small (2 inch tall, maybe) padlock that has black rubber on the base, with the label "Master" on the bottom and "Commercial" on top. I picked it twice after purchasing it, but now I can't seem to get it at all. The plug is very loose, causing trouble when trying to reduce tension, and it only allows the key to be turned in one direction.
Sorry for all the reading required, but any help appreciated!

do not pick locks you or others rely on.
do not pick locks you do not own.
what are you using for picks?
what number is stamped on the master lock?
the key usually only turns in one direction on padlocks
master locks commonly have loose plugs, try using two tension wrenches in an L shape to combat this.
that was not very much reading by this forums standard.
pics would be great if possible.
please fill out your profile to let us know whereabouts you are.
thanks. and welcome

are they actual picks? or homemade?
no.3 have very loose plugs, they have 4 pins, and are relatively easy once you build up any skill really.
do you have 2 tension wrenches?
if so, put one tw flat on the bottom of the keyway, and then the next one like normal, and this should prevent any slipping of the tw.
other than that, the no. 3 is THE standard padlock for beginners i guess.
you may want to go and buy a cheap $10 deadbolt and practice on that for these reasons:
1) you can take it apart, and follow digital_blues beginner exercise.
2) it is much easy and better for learning.
3) you see how the lock works MUCH better.
4) you can always repin it later to be harder.
do this, and then try the no. 3, and its almost promised that you will be better.

I have picked quite a few other locks, and this one is just tricky because of the slipping. I dont have two tension wrenches, but if I got a 2nd and put it under the plug itself, it would work? Like in between the plug and body?
Might have to check out a deadbolt.
They are not home made btw.

No insult was intended when he asked you if they were homemade.. A lot of the advanced pickers still use picks that they make themselves.
Still would be nice to know the brand because what i've noticed is that there are different techniques to using South Ord's and HPC from Falle's and Petersons

ok, this might be overkill, but maybe it will be helpful. here goes......
this is the style of dual tensioning i was talking about:
this is another demonstration of said tensioning, here i show it on a standard ol' schlage 5 pin sc1 keyway.
this is what i am just calling flat tensioning, i know someone (company someone) makes wrenches like these, but i cant remember who. anyway, the wrench is completely flat, and if you make your own, you can make it any size you want, or stepped, though i find that to be harder to use.
and lastly, just a quick demonstration of tensioning on the top of the lock. just in case someone didnt ever think of that, i didnt for the longest time when i was new, then i saw it and i like it a lot on some locks.
anyways, this is just a quick little something to help anyone who comes across this. hope it helps in the explaining of the dual tensioning at least. let me know if you still dont follow or something and i can post more.
oh, and every one of those 3 tension wrenches i have made myself, at some point in my picking career. enjoy.

Hope this image works. My lock is a different style then the one you posted. Very small bottom keyway section.

This one works now Its a poor picture, but I had to take it quickly between Gears of War rounds. You can still see how small it is and the difference between mine and yours. Do they make torsion wrenches that small?

Hey, I guess I still fall into the noob category, even though I've been practicing on my own for quite a few years.
I've never seen that technique before. That's a really neat idea.
Thanks for the photos!

and you said thats a no. 3 masterlock?
never seen the keyway like that before. post another pic later when you can that isnt so blurry.
that and show the key next to it. it looks like it a different style of key, but again, the pic=suck.
gears of war=yummy. i dont play, but i know a guy who plays nonstop for hours and brags about it when hes not playing.
