Maybe your turning the cylinder in the wrong direction? Try picking it the opposite direction. It could be possible that there are spool pins in the lock of which gives you the illusion that you've picked the lock but you really have pins binding on the shear line... In the case that you have security/spool pins try raising the pins higher so that they wont bind at the shear line.

Good luck and happy picking!

So you have some Ruko locks that get stuck when you pick them and turn the plug 180 degrees? There is a simple answer for this.

Normally when you insert a key into a lock and turn it, it can turn 360. But now, you pick it CW or CCW and it only turns 180 and stops. The reason this is happening and I'm surprised your lock isnt stuck in this position, is that the springs inside the body of the lock are pushing out onto the driver pins, and the second your plug rotates so that the keyway is right over/under the pin stacks where the springs and driver pins are, the spings push the pins out of the cylinder housing and into the keyway. But why you ask? Well, normally, if a key was there this would not happen because the key fills up the entire area of the keyway, but when picking, suddenly you have this new air space, a void in the metal that other parts can go into and get things stuck.

There is an easy way to get past this stopping point. When you pick the lock and turn it 180 degrees or half way as you say, and the lock gets stuck, take the back of your hook pick, or a straight tension wrench handle, insert into the keyway and push all the driver pins back into the housing, while using another wrench to try to rotate the plug past the half way point.

good luck and let us know if it worked for you,
Squelchtone

and I just realized the reply was to a post from 2007, so J.E.L., you may find this information more useful than the original poster.

Good to see your enthusiasm for the forum, JEL!!!

Looks like you've combed the threads for unanswered ones. Good to add to the body of knowledge for those that use the search feature.

I especially like the thoroughness of your responses and the obvious skill and experience behind them.

Looking forward to hearng more from you.

Wow well I learned something new today thanks squelchtone and I'm sure somewhere down the road i'll def. be remembering (hopefully) what you've said if I happen to come about this type of lock it's def. interesting that they installed that type of security (or is it security?) for the lock. and thank you for your support nostromo that search feature does come in handy when searching for those un-answered questions lol. This skill I apparently have is after about 1.5 years of learning from my girlfriends father who works in the Sussex, Delaware area as a locksmith. It's pretty awesome!

Its not a security feature just a byproduct of the way the keyway is made. And the fact its ment to be operated with a key. :P

Haha Man I just figured out what was being explained I didn't relize it was being stuck in the 180 degrees I was thinking it was stuck in the 90 degree angle. Okay so the top pins were just sticking into the cylinder... HAHA got it thats actually pretty simple and I have no idea why I didn't pick up on this considering I actually ran into this problem about 4 weeks ago on a lock out and it immediatley struck me that it was happening for that reason. Went right over my head there for a second. Thanks for the clarification darklighterz7611!
