Picked first lock. Whats next?

Postby Mankato » 29 Mar 2007 3:52

I'm a n00b at lock picking. I just picked it up as a hobby and I'm already loving it.

I can successfully pick a 5 pin practice lock now(#5PPC on lockpickshop.com). It is the first lock I've ever picked. I've practiced with it enough to where I can typically pick it in 30 seconds or less. I'm sure all of you can do better, but I'm proud of myself. lol

Does anyone have any suggestions for the next lock I should learn to pick? I would definately appreciate your help. I've got the basic 11 piece lock pick set (MPXS-11) from lockpickshop.com.

Thanks
Mankato

Congratulations and welcome to the new lock picking sport (As some call it). I would def. say picking up a kwikset lock would probably be your best bet considering the key-way is relatively open and easy to move a pick through, making it a good starting point for you! Try to stay away from security pins though, but if you up for a challenge go for it. But if you ever do run into them you'll def. know because the plug won't completely turn (pretty much stuck in a 5 degree turn if anything). Other users on this forum came up with a great idea and that was to go to a junk yard and gather a few locks and get yourself familiar with them.

Well happy picking!

Get more locks!

Or learn how to repin them and try new combinations. Throw in some spool pins, too.
