Question on Advanced Topic (General)

Postby SemiShady » 8 Jun 2007 17:11

just curious as i was looking up safe types. Please don't elaborate, i don't want this to a discussion on safe techniques.

Say you have a safe w/ the glass wall that when drilled through, it breaks and drops the bolts in so your locked out

The owner goes "Great the theif didn't get in"

will the key or combo lift those and allow the owner to still get in or is he now screwed too?

please just a "yes he can still get in" or "no he can't" answer. Or "On some types" if thats the answer. Thanks again. Sorry bout the topic but i can think of any other place to get this answered. If you can't answer it i guess thats fine too.

It's called a "glass relocker."

No, the combination won't work. A safe engineer will have to spend a lot of time on this safe if the relocker is triggered. Very expensive.

thx for the speedy answer. Would the owner pay this or the safe company?

Owner.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Thanks for the info. That could turn into a bad situation for the owner. Wouldn't it be better for him to just have a safe that the theif can get into and then just get insurance money? Im sure insurance (business or homeowner) doesn't cover hireing a safe engineer to open your safe. But it would cover items stolen correct? (Obviously does not apply to rare or sentamental items)

i saw that one were they filled it with water and droped a stick of dynomite in.. lol Obviously thats the first thing i would do.. hehe

if its personal or rare the water and the dynamite will ruin it. if its currency the dynomite will ruin it. Might as well just throw the safe away with the stuff in it.

As I understand it, insurance will typically require a certain level of protection on the safe. Think of opening expenses as a deductible.

Talk to your insurance company about your coverage. Sometimes, a safe will lower your premium as well.

Thats an interesting question !
Your safe protects the contents from being stolen, so the insurance company is off the hook and your left with a huge bill trying to get your safe opened, and have to purchase a replacement one.

Unless you could claim that expense from the insurance company as being caused by the break in, and thus claimable.
While nothing was stolen there was damage caused, so I figure you should be able to make a claim.

Thats a good point. However the damage was caused to the safe and its probably cheaper to buy a new one than get the current one open. They might some how try and weasle there way out of it.

Again good point though cause if u needed a safe like that you would probably have mentioned it and whats in it to your insurance agency, so they would probably tell you ahead of time exactly what would go down if that were to happen.
