Starting on a Master No.3

Postby Sleaze » 10 Jun 2007 12:46

Hello,
I'm new here and have been researching lock picking for the past couple of days. I'm going to make my picks tomorrow with one of my friends table sander(using hacksaw blades), and I already have my tension wrench made out of a small screwdriver. I'm going to make a small hook with a rounded tip and a half diamond.

Anyway, I was rummaging through my basement and found a padlock (Master #3). Would this be easy enough to start on? What type of lock is it exactly? how many pins does it have, etc, etc?

Any tips for a new lock picker?

Thanks
Sleaze

I only have a Master No. 14 which I presume is the larger brother of the No.3.
It is a very simple lock to open, then they all are when you know how :-)

It's got five pins, no security ones and my cat is now able to open it and shows off to her friends this feline feat !

As for more information, just trawl the forums here and you will be reading forever :-)

Have fun dude :-)

It's a 4 pin tumbler, likely easy, only thing hard about it could be it's bitting.

That said? There are a ton of posts on good starting locks for newbies. Welcome to the site, we're glad to have you, but if you've been researching the last couple of days, go through and read the stickies on here, and search around for similar posts to ones you're about to post / ask question about.

There is a LOT of content on here, but the more you search and read up, the more you'll be able to answer your own questions.

Glad to have you, feel free to drop me a line if you need anything. Locking this for now.

One good tip - go easy on the tension, you don't need much, and too much will always foul your picking. If you don't have the key, masterlock turns counter-clockwise. Best tip of all? Stick around here :)
