mushroom pin - bevel edge combo

Postby j9678 » 11 Mar 2004 0:58

What if a lock have mushroom driver pins and beveled edge at the plug holes ?
Recently, I got a Yale lock. I suspect that inside the lock is this kinds of combo.
Everytime I turn a few degree then no more further, no spring froces. I also need to make a very heavy torque to avoid the fall of some pins.

So just to clarify, you begin picking the lock, and then it will turn part of the way then stop? And you can't push anymore pins up? Or can you? you just can't feel the springs anymore?

I can push all of the key pins, but no spring forces. So I think some of the driver pins already on top of the sheer line.
I think some of the driver pins trap at the beveled edge. I try to push them up but never make even a slightly turn. That might be the mushroom pin head stuck at the sheer line.

Yales do have security pins (in most cases pins 2 and 4).

To pick Yales the tension you use must be very, very light. If you use too much tension the security pin will set before rising to the correct level.

Reverse raking has also worked on the Yale locks I've practised on.
