Books on locks - advice before I borrow

Postby greyman » 21 Jun 2007 16:31

Just went to the British Library today in London and got my membership card. Went to a reading room and looked up the catalogue for books on locks. It came up with about 70+ entries, many of which were on dams (ie canal locks). The 20th century ones that caught my eye are listed below, and if possible I'd like to hear from LP101 members who are familiar with these. The British Library stocks a large amount of its collection in Yorshire (North England) and it takes 2 days to get the books delivered to the reading room. Then you only get to use a pencil or laptop to make notes - and no drinks allowed.

1. All about locks (M Alth)

2. Locks and lock making (F J Butter 1926)

3. Locks, Bolts and Bars (O Elton, 1945)

4. Locks on door to flats (L J Harrington 1992)

5. The mystery of locks (E W Howe - this might not be a book on locks?)

6. Security ID systems and locks (J Konicek 1997)

7. The use of locks in Physical Crime Prevention (J M Edgar 1987)

The Mystery of the Locks (1885) is classified as fiction... that may help

Two slightly differant titles i think you will agree and thats all i was meaning,

I was just siting my refrences upon request of confirmation... as you can see there is an added 'the' but considering the author name... and a search of the former not exist by said suthor... I would assume that this listing be more accurate

only trying to be helpful... although now I would emplore greyman to order the aformentioned book in so we can findout what the mystery is..

As i meant in my first post but oin reading it things didnt come across, im sure it is just a typo or somthign but i was merely making comment i didnt think it would be anything so big as to need explaining via a gfew posts, i hope you understand what i meant now and realise its no big deal just a passing comment i made,

I would still like to know where the books are as im not far away and if its a local liabry i may go and have a read one day,
