Well..
I'm trying to close a drawer of me with some homemade tools xP, i dunno if it works, lets go to the photo:


I'm using that really small and thin screwdriver as my pressure wrench... And that homemade pick ^^
The first thing..

This lock works this way:
When i put the key into it and roll the key, the bar goes Up and lock the drawer, then when i roll it back the bar goes down ^^

I just lost the keys ^^

well.. first off taking into account that you read many tutorials, (atleast the MIT guid) you're hopefully not just randomly moving your pick up and down.
Second, the screwdriver.. it'd probabily help if you had an actual tension wrench because the tension is very critical in the whole process. You're probabily putting too much torque on the lock.

Well, i'm not doing it randomly ^^

I'm trying to do a homemade tension wrench like that http://locksport.com/home/index.php?ent ... 027-222056
in the guide... but i dont have a wiper blade and wont take it from the car haha...
I'm trying something here, but the blade i found is just too big xP, i have to cut it but its veryyy hard ^^

Well, (I'm assuming English isn't your first language), I've seen Americans type way worse English than that, so you don't have to worry much about that part (unless English IS your first language, lol).

Now people here are going to tell you to buy some real lockpicks if you wanna learn.. and well, if you want to learn to lockpick and practise, that really is the best solution. But I'll throw some tips on how to go by with the tools you have available right now.

First, you want to bend the tip of your screwdriver. This will give you more room to move you pick hand, and it will give you more feel and control over the tension. Second, if your paper clip bends too easily, find a harder paper clip. Perhaps try using less of an angle for the hook at the tip of your 'pick'. Sand the tip of your paperclip so its smooth, and slides through parts of the lock without catching on stuff. If you're going to use a paperclip, try to find the hardest one you can, and if it's too thick to fit in the lock, you can sand the sides of it down to make it thinner. Using bobby pins might give you a bit more luck, since they dont bend as easily.

If you are going to go further in lockpicking though, you wanna consider gettin some real picks to learn on, as you won't be able to learn much on the tools you are currently using. (And I'm sure you'll get like 5 more posts saying the same thing, lol)

Oh wow.. while I was (lazily) typing my post, two came in, lol. I'm gonna have to double up on this one, sorry mods.

Mataraia, try looking by street curbs for street cleaner bristles. You'll find broken metal peices that will work perfect for tension wrenches. They might be rusted when you find them, so you'll probably have to sand them a bit, but it won't take you long, and it'll work a lot better than your screwdriver.

if he wants a better tension wrench and doesnt have real ones yet i suggest making one out of a large paperclip. i've opened locks with just large paperclips. and i didnt have to go looking in the gutters.

Paperclips are a terrible way to startout, they can easily break, get stuck and provide terrible feedback... paperlclips should be only used as follows




to do otherwise is foolish and wrong... don't go around handing out disinformation, a streetsweeper bristle (which many have found) is a FAR far superior option

Wipoer blade inserts can be found at any local garage, ask before looking through their bins but a session at each local garage will give you more than enough blades to last you a year,

Well Crash13, I guess it depends on where you live, but for me, a 2 minute walk down the street of my house is enough to find a few. (I live in a suburb.) But considering Mataraia is using a paper clip as a pick already, I think a proper tension wrench would be much better for him/her... Or he could go with wiper blade inserts as Schrub said.

This don't works yet, but better than the screwdriver, i dunno why doesn't work i guess its why i'm to newb or cuz' it takes too much space in the lock ^^... I got one here really thick, i'll try to sand it and then come back here to tell u what i'll get...

there are many things to make lockpicks out of and paperclips are not one of them.... don't believe that paperclips with break? take one and bend it back and forth for a minute in the same spot and tell me what it does...

Nah the 'broken peices of metal' (lol) aren't much better than the wiper inserts; pretty much the same. In fact, the inserts might be a better bet since I believe they bend a little easier - don't break as easily during bending.

If this lock is on your cabinet, its probably a wafer lock (correct me if I'm wrong guys), so perhaps shaping your paperclip like a half-ball pick (if possible) might give you better results; I have read a few times here that half-balls work nicely on wafer locks (I don't really have much experience with wafers so I can't give you personal advice). How many wafers or pins does your lock have? If you haven't tried yet, try raking the lock.
