Sorry I am coming off as a prick, but there are drunk guys all around me right now harrassing a chick at starbucks, and I am about to do something with them that they won't enjoy if they don't leave her alone.

Spend a few days reading all the different sections in this forum and you'll have a much better understanding of what's what and also where to buy/make things.

I wouldn't call picking locks "hacking."

HowStuffWorks is a great site and all, but just look at the placement of the tension wrench on their example. I mean, come on.

Not everything they say is accurate. Do more research.

just my 2 cents, but picking is definately hacking..

viewtopic.php?t=1648

also see MIT 'hacks' which weren't computer related at all.

hacking is an attitude of wanting to overcome a problem or finding out how things work etc... Little kids can be hackers.

"Cracking" on the other hand is different and illegal
Oh look! it's 2016!

hacking isn't illegal? cracking is just the lamers way of doing it, without any real skill.

picking is to hacking... as pickguns are to cracking.

good anology right there

Hacking, using the traditional definition, is NOT illegal. Very few people still make the distinction between hacking and cracking. Hacking would be picking a lock you own; cracking would be picking a lock you don't.

I still don't know that I'd call myself a hacker because I can pop the lock on my front door.

And as for getting a lab-style twist wrench: make it yourself. That said, why do you want one? It's not what I'd get if I was a newbie.

Heres the short of it. Go out and get some cheapo hacksaw blades, and grind them slowly to the profile you wish. Plenty of ideas on www.crypto.com. Tension wrench, get a street sweeper bristle, or the metal strip out of a windshield wiper blade.

Seriously, do some research for yourself. A street sweeper bristle is a bristle from a street sweeper, just do a search either here or in google. And if you go LOOK at a windshield wiper -- I'm sure there's a car within walking distance -- it's very obvious which part we're talking about.
