Is it just me, or are there a lot more locked threads on LP101 than there used to be? I get the distinct feeling that either more people are asking questions they shouldn't be or maybe the mods are getting fed up with the extra traffic?

In terms of locked threads, there seems to be a fairly consistent number in the time I've been here.

From all I've read, the reason for all the locked threads is that some people don't read the rules and are asking for information that's explicitly verbotin.

I can understand why the mods can get a little miffed sometimes. The questions always seem to be the same, or very similar to each other. It's always something like:

"blah blah blah Picking Car Locks"

"blah blah Opening A Safe"

"yotta yotta Picking A Medeco High Security Lock"

"wokka wokka Picking A Lock That's In Use"

or some such deal. :x

And don't get me started on the spamming...

Greyman,

I think yes there have been alot more locked threads. Some that are locked are questions that have been asked many many times in the past. Some are locked for questions that are on a fine line between advanced and open topics. Some of these I would not personally lock but the admin/moderator team always respects the decisions of others on the team. This helps cover those days that I am feeling more lax in what I allow as someone else may catch a mistake I made or overlooked.

We (the admin/moderator team) are really doing the best we can. The fact of the matter is, this site is growing at such a rapid pace and there are getting to be so few of us around on site that it gets to be alot to handle. We are working to solve those issues. The situation that compounds that problem is the tendancy of the site to get very slow at times as you have seen. Trust us that we are doing all we can.

IF there is a thread out there that you would like to know why it was locked and the reason is not totally obvious please feel free to PM me and if I have time I will look into it. I cannot guarantee that I can look into every one that someone has a question about but I will do my best to tell you why it was locked from my point of view.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Zeke

That is a good answer. Thanks for taking time from your busy schedule to reply in such a lot of detail. One further thing I'd like to ascertain is in regards to spam. I suppose any threads that are not related to locks or lock gossip, i.e. spam, get deleted by the mods once they are noticed?

The reason I'm mentioning this is because I've noticed quite a few of these spurious (Viagra, etc) messages getting through onto the forum.
