Help!

As you may know.. I recently purchased the contents of several lockshops.. It has taken me a few weeks to get much of the “ booty” sorted out..
I would like to share some of my “goodies” to the members of LP101… absolutely free
.

5000+ Security Pins – standard diameter. Top and Bottom Pins . different sizes for schlage, kwickset , ect type locks
2 Bump Hammers
3 Euro Cylinders with keys
HPC 20? piece Pick set + case NEW
HPC Tubular Pick ( ACE ) NEW
6 Master padlock SPECIAL cylinders.. 6pins 5 mushroom/ spool drivers, some serrated bottom pins with keys
Medeco Cam locks .. Classic style with 1 key

So here is my problem… I need some ideas on what YOU think would be a fun , interesting way to distribute this stuff and at the same time benefit LP101
I was thinking about a contest of some sort .. but I am open to any ideas.

Please post your suggestions / ideas .

Thanks

1) You rock!

2) I like the idea of a tool contest as well. I'm thinking a homebrew pickset contest would be cool. The catch: it cannot be a set you've made previously. In other words; all new picks. Perhaps make uniqueness a big factor in judging criteria. You could maybe split it up into several contests: hook picks set, rakes set, 5 pick overall set, tension wrench set, 20 pick set, etc... Another possibility is that you could trade one of the items for the winners. This way, you'd end up with some unique tools as well.

That is a good idea, the problem is that it instantly limits the winner's pool to those who have a talent for that kind of thing. I would love to win some of that great stuff, but I don't think for a minute that my first attempt at a tool would look like Kaotik or the like.

Maybe some kind of lock trivia in addition to the tool design, this would give more people a shot at winning.

Awww! Come on. You mean that I can't make a set of tools and win everything?! Bummer. I could use a good bump hammer.

Good idea though, maybe some of the new pick makers can enter and have chance at winning something.

Kaotic

Postby raimundo » 15 Oct 2007 9:46

If memory serves, Kaotic did not come to this forum fully formed, he learned here and applied himself,
Those who say "I cant do that" before they even try, are self limiting,

Also, Kaotics works of art show that he applies work to the process, I would suggest he enjoys the work, and is not impatient for results with least possible work. He gets the zen of the process, and is not in a hurry to get it over with.

Anyone can

How about a raffle for the items? Members could purachse raffle tickets by donating $1 to LI for each "ticket". DO something like 6 tickets for $5 etc. First ticket drawn at the close of the raffle will get first choice of items, second drawn will go next, etc.

This would take a bit of setting up but it could bring in some dough for LI. That however is really up to DB and frostbyte on whether it is something they want to tackle.

Other than that, I am up for more contests for articles and how to's.

trivial quiz - never going to work out... just think about it

picks - possibly, might be unfair for less skilled members in the art though.

raffle - could probably work out great if everything got sorted out (if you guys need me to write a program in Visual Basic or something to hand out raffle numbers and then randomly select winners, I'd be willing to.)

If you've read Zeke's contest aplications (adv forum) the quality of the work was amazing. Keeping it to the main forum may limit what could be done but anything like that is likely to generate some grea ideas. So I think maybe some kind of award for inovation of any kind.

Or possibly another more complex idea. Trying a lock design competition, ingenious locks designed to a basic level, or beyond (though anything too impressive may be waiting on a patent before posting :D )

I like the raffle idea. This way everyone has an equal chance of winning, and the site could get some funds. A pick making contest gives some people an advantage over others. Some are just more artistic than others. I've made several pick that work great, but they don't look good enough to win a contest.

I like the idea of a contest like the one in the advanced forums a little while ago...

For obvious reasons.... I like zeke's idea. :P

I agree with vrocco. Problem with a tool contest is that:

a) The people who *could* win probably don't really *need* these items.
b) The poeple who really *need* these items wouldn't have a flying chance.

keysman, I think that your offer is very generous and much appreciated by the community at large, I'm sure. I would think that either a raffle of some sorts (even if it weren't for money, but rather just totally random) might be a good approach. It would be easy enough to administrate such a raffle. Have a pre-ordained set of numbers. Have one person giving them out privately. Have an entirely different person roll 4 dice and announce the number publicly. Then the person giving out the numbers could easily see and announce who won (not to mention, the person with the winning number might chime in :P). Or some variant on that.

That'd be my vote, fwiw. :)

Wow, very generous for you to offer all that stuff for free, considering you could make some good cash with all that.

Personally, I'm interested in some of those pins :P .
