Lockpicking 101 Search feature

Postby djslacker » 19 Nov 2007 21:03

I don't find anything when I use the search feature. I've even just searched "lock" and I can't find anything. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me??

Why doesn't the site owner fix the search function. Or put a note on the search function redirecting the user. Or anything? What crappy maintenance . Its going to stay broken forever, because somone is lazy.

Using Google

Postby heelflip_kid » 20 Nov 2007 17:27

When this happened to me, I just used Google. You can have it search only this site with the following query:

site:lockpicking101.com [your search query].

It works fairly well and should hold anyone over until the admin gets around to fixing it.

There are many other sites for you to use if you do not like the situation here and I welcome you to do so. I have been doing all I can to try and get the situation fixed but attitudes such as yours do nothing for the moral of the site as a whole. I am just as unhappy as you are with the situation but there is not much more I can do to get it fixed other than what I am doing.

Fact of the matter is, no one is sitting next to you twisting your arm to visit this site. Personally I would like to take over this site fully but i am not sure if that is something that could or would happen. Until someone who has more time for this site comes along and buys the site we are just going to have to deal with how things go. It has always taken a while to get any problem fixed and I am sure this one will be no different. Mr. Picks has only been aware of the site problem for just over a week now. For someone who runs over 100 sites it takes time to get around to fixing problems.

I am by no means standing up for him and how long things take but posting in the manner you and others are posting in is bad for moral of the site. I just ask that you think about this before you post about the topic again.

In my opinion a big site like this needs a dedicated owner, even though I think Mr. Picks is doing a decent job with keeping up. If he is too busy to keep up with the site maintenance, I'd be more than happy to help - being an experienced coder in PHP/HTML. And if he's really interested in selling the site to someone else, could you PM me with some more details; I might be interested.

Your right Zeke, no one is twisting my arm forcing me or any of the other 50,000 people to come here, and invest so much of their time, effort and energy. The fact that Mr. Picks owns 100 other sites means he is doing this as a business, and as a business owner, it would be in his best interests to look out for his customers. If Mr. Picks cared about moral, then he would be paying attention, and realize that there was an small problem that could easily fixed. He wouldn't wait almost a MONTH after the problem began to get it fixed.

And Zeke, in no way was I attacking you. I'm sorry you had to get so offensive.

Luckily, we have good old black zero on the project to make things right. Also $200,000 is what Mr. Picks wants for Lp101!

To be honest thats not the kind of think i would think to look for in the stickies on a forum. Just tell people how they can get round the problem instead of talking down to them huh.

I wasnt getting offensive any more than you were towards the site. All I was trying to say was it is out of ALL of our control to fix the site. We can still try to keep morale as high as we can though. Mr. Picks does not read this site so maybe instead of posting all of the negatives here it would do better to email them to him. Maybe after a few hundred emails he might realize just how important this site is to him.

No hard feelings Doug. Personally, I just think that there are better ways to spend your energy that might get actual results such as email Mr. Picks. I too have inquired about buying this site as I really do love this site. As you have noticed though, it is not an option for most people to spend that kind of money on a website no matter how much one believes in what is stands for. I never want to try and tell anyone what they can and cannot post within the rules. I do however think that the situation could be handled better and possibly get actual results instead of just a morale trashing thread that will never be read by Mr. Picks. I know he does this for a business and I honestly have no idea why he does not take this site more seriously than he does. I know that I just keep prodding him to fix the problems with spam and other broken features but that is all I can do.

I guess I take it personally when site trashing posts are made simply because as you have done, I have put alot of time into making this site what it is today. I know we are loosing members. I know there is alot of unhappy people. That is where it starts to agitate me as I really want to fix it and make it better but the fact of the matter is, even if I wanted to do no-no things listed by Mr. Pick's as his rules about what an admin can and cannot do, I have no access to the server to make any changes or fix anything. I really wish I did have as the search feature would have been fixed the day it went down.

Please dont take what I said personal. As you can read above, that is the reason I get so ticked off about it. It is not you or anyone else who complains that bugs me. It is the fact that things to not get fixed and things resort to posts that complain about the site. It bugs me because I know he will never read it and there is nothing I can do about it.
