Master keying SFIC control key.....

Postby lostlink » 21 Nov 2007 17:31

Not sure if this should be in the business forum, here, or elsewhere......

I've been doing a little research on this and was planning on putting together a masterkey system for future use which will include masterkeying the control key. Possibly 8 to 12 control keys.

Has anyone done this and how large of a system was it........?

I think you might be mixing terms here-your control keys are the ones that remove the cores in IC locks. You should only have to have one control key for all of your cylinders, think of it as your TMK, except that it removes the core instead of opening the lock. The keys for individual cylinders are called "Change keys"

Yo----Thanks, but no confusion here......Let me teach you...

Example: Five moderately sized rental complexes, large enough to have at least 1 maintenance (or more ) personal. Owner desires for maintenance to have only control key for "their" designated building or area.

Owner will have Master control key, and Top Level Master key.
The renters will not have a change key, but instead it will be an operation key (that's what it is called in the SFIC world)........

Who told you that?
There are many ways the system can be designed. The CONTROL shear can be master keyed, but I don't know if it's a great idea since any master keying can reduce the number of usable operating keys.

You only use the control key for maintenance/rekeying, so it's not impractical to have each building/area to have a single keyed control and naturally, it's a good idea to keep padlocks on a completely unrelated control bitting....

You could have the same TMK, different controls.
Same control different MKs, no TMK
Also MKs, TMKs, CKs & Top CKs, but imagine the toll it takes on available bittings.
