if this is your first set i suggest something smaller. and yes you can pick alot of different locks with this set, including a schlage deadbolt

also i heard the easiest way to pick a shlage is raking it?

first of all, don't jump ahead of yourself, try some masterlock padlocks first, start at the bottom and work your way up, thats what I am doing, my picks have not been in anything else but a padlock yet, this will teach you the basics. I practice 4 hours every single day, I want to get the padlocks down first before I jump into something more complicated. Also, do yourself another favor, order a smaller set of picks, you aren't going to know what to do with all of these, also, I suggest staying away from any picks that use knife like handles, try plain old picks, that way you can feel whats going on in the lock, you will learn more. I am so new to this, and I don't know everything, but these are my experiences.

I woudl have to disagree with that. cheap master padlocks are a good start but something u can take apart and repin will tech you more and last you longer on a budget.

although there is no harm in starting with a smaller pick set and buying more locks instead.

some of the schlage copies are probably better to learn on.

I would recomend you take a few pins out of the Schlage first because that is harder lock to start out on with all the pins in it. I teach my friends and family on old Kwicksets because they are lot more forgiving then Schlage deadbolts. Kwicksets(or any KW1 keyways) have a lot more space inside the lock to move your picks around than Schalges(SC1 locks.)

You're going to need alot of practise and luck to get the Schlage on your first lock. Start off with a simple medium cost deadbolt (e.g. Defiant, Kwikset or ilco) Masterlock-Padlocks are a good starter too. Once you get those done, work your way up to the Schlage through smaller keyways and security-pin locks.

Hell, yes that will work. If its your first lock I suggest starting with just 1 pin in the lock. Pick it about 25 times then work your way up to 5 pins. It is the fastest most effective way to learn to pick a lock that I have found. You only need 1 pick(short hook) and a tension wrench to pick most locks.

Schlage's usually have alot of spool/security pins so i wouldnt recommend trying to pick it as your first lock, it will be very frustrating. as above kwiksets are easier to pick and have a decent sized keyway, unlike schlage's where you have to tilt your pick.

and those picks will probably open just about any pin tumbler you come into contact with.

Its a schlage you could probably rake that bad boy open with a long rake. If you don't get it try starting out with 1 pin. Pick it 25 times then work your way up to 5 pins. You will get it eventually.
