diff between mpxs and pxs

Postby jjjjhayesjj » 3 Jan 2008 16:08

yea i was just wondering on the southord site there is pxs-17 piece set and a mpxs14 piece set and the 14 piece set costs the same amount as the pxs17 one. is it because mpxs means its higher quality?

i just dont understand why the 14 piece set isnt cheaper when it comes with less stuff thanks

the mpxs14 has metal laminated handles, the other set does not.

I definitely would. I'd take 3 good/comfortable picks over a set of so-so picks.

That being said there are freaks out there who prefer the picks without the stainless steel handles, you might be one of them. :)

The picks with handles are almost always better. There may be some situations where you really need the tactile feedback of a pick with no handle but locks like those are way out of my paygrade to begin with :D

The first set of picks I bought was the PXS-17. The picks are of high-quality, but I spent so much time picking that I got a major blister and then callus on the first knuckle of my middle finger (I use the pencil grip most when picking) because the picks without handles were so thin that they cut into my skin.

I then bought a MPXS-32 and the difference was amazing. The picks were much more comfortable and they didn't dig into my skin.

I highly recommend you get a set with handles!

I forgot to add that the PXS-17 comes with a large handle that you can insert any of the picks in and tighten down with the Allen wrench that comes with the set.

I tried that huge-a$s handle a few times and then stopped using it because it provides no feedback. It is way heavier than the pick. It might be useful to just permanently connect to your favorite rake but that is about it.

The large handle in the PXS-17 set is to heavy and it's easier to just grab a pick instead of having to put it in the handle
