Picking a double sided master lock

Postby sledder69 » 4 Jan 2008 10:42

I was wondering if anyone had any information on picking a double sided master lock, without double sided lock picks. I don't know the exact type of master lock, I just know that the keyhole spins and I found out that it was a double sided master lock. If anyone has any information for me I would appreciate it. Thanks

Never seen a double sided Master lock before but any time I pick a double sided lock I just use a wishbone tension wrench and either a diamond or "M" rake to to lightly scrub both sides of the lock.

If you could provide a picture of the lock in question that would help.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

I think you must be refering to a warded padlock. You need warded picks.

A piece of stiff wire can be used.

Or you can eye ball the shape from the pictures and file your existing keys so it'll function as a pick tool.

The way a warded lock works is that there are pieces of metal in the way of turning the key. They don't have pin/tumblers - there is nothing to "pick".

A warded lockpick for a given type of warded lock is nothing but the key to any lock of that series that is filed down so that there are no protrusions on the key that would collide with one of the pieces of metal in the lock that stops the key from turning.

A warded lockpick is just a piece of steel that maintains the shape at the end tip of the lock (that is the part that actually opens the lock) but has no protrusions to stop the key from turning.

The "piece of wire" that freakparade3 mentioned can be used in one of two ways: It can be bent at the tip so that it is in the same shape as the actual key at the tip (typically just a right angle or "T" shape) or it can be maneuvered so as to pry the wire that binds the shackle away from the shackle so the lock can be opened.

Use a hook pick, or padlock shims made from beer cans.

I have a set of the standard southord lock picks. Should I be able to pick this warded lock with those or should I get a set of warded lock picks?
