The other day I caught the neighbor kid chasing my horses with his new dirt bike. I padlocked the lower gate to keep him out but within the hour I found another lock (Specialized brand combination cable lock) on my gate as well. I would like to open this lock and change the combination, any suggestions?
Thanks,
U.S

Bolt cutters /grinding wheel / locksmith
In that order will be the fastest... The time it will take you to learn a non destructive method for a “one time event" is just not efficient use of your valuable time.

If it is your gate then I would use a pair of bolt cutters and hang the mangled lock on the gatepost as a warning to the little f*ck that wanted to mess with you. Maybe place a few empty shotgun shells next to it.

yep, no point saving the lock and you probably cant change the combo on a cheap lock so just cut it off.
I wouldn't leave the lock as a warning, i would write a warning and leave it.

You might be able to decode it with a feeler gauge, or a pointed piece of shim stock. What brand and model? Na just cut it off you probably dont want to mess with it.

Yea you might be able to bypass it with a peterson mini knife. He wants to change the combo so he would need to decode it first.

if he was trespassing on your land and harassing your animals you should call the police, let them sort him and the lock out.
hopefully he'll get a slap around the ear off his parents too

Thanks for the responses.
It was after talking with the little miscreants father that I came up with the plan to change the combination, you see the fathers attitude was " Boy's will be boy's" and then he went back to drinking his beer.
As for the police they offered to mail me a report form.
If I get it open and do what I'm planning to do with it I will let you know, I believe the father will think twice about letting his son spread discontent in our neighborhood, maybe I could get a video of it.........

No need to get all elaborate and try to figure out how to change the combo. Cut off the lock and buy another of the same type. He won't know the diff. Unless you think that there is another combo lock with the same combo securing something on their property. If that is the case then what you are planning is illegal and you won't get any help here.
oops, did I spoil the fun.....

Haha, my uncle used to do something similar when he lived out in the country to kids that went around harassing peoples animals. He hung up a "No Trespassing" sign with shotgun shells dangling from it. Don't think anyone ever bothered him or his property after that.
