Dismantling a Master Lock #3

Postby Brownsound » 15 Feb 2008 2:53

Hi, I'm new to the site, and I tried to do a search but no matter what I typed in all I got was "no results found" so I decided to post a topic, I sincerely apologize if this has been covered somewhere else. i was wondering if someone could tell me if this was possible without and power tools? I have two of them and I was hoping to isolate the plug in one of them so I could practice with it. I got two used ones from work and they've proven a bit difficult to pick, I've picked a few other ones before, so I'm wondering if the locks are just in bad shape. Thanks for your help.

Theres a "sticky" covering the search issue, right in this sub forum, above where you posted. Here is the link.

Try searching with the method suggested in there. The Mod/Admin team is working night and day (work permitting) on fixing this forums search function.

If you still cannot find any info on it after searching, post some pics of your locks, its allot easier to offer information after seeing pics of what you are referring to. :D

destructive

Postby raimundo » 15 Feb 2008 12:23

the #3 cannot be opened non destructively, however, if you wish to remover the cylinder, here is the easiest way.

place the lock in a vise, mounted to a bench,

chose a lamination to be the break point. Do not chose the bottom lamination.

Use a hacksaw to cut into the corner of the lamination that you will destroy. cut the corner at a 45 degree angle until you cut through the rivet inside that corner.

repeat on 3 more corners of the same lamination.

now you can unstack the laminations and see the whole mechanism.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Wouldn't it be better to get a rekeyable Masterlock pad lock such as no. 27. To open it up and remove the core all you have to do is unlock it, insert a allen wrench in the hole and unscrew the bolt and the bottom will come off exposing the core.

Your missing the point, he wants to see whats inside his number 3 master lock, not whats inside his number 27 master lock.
