Did I break padlock?

I bought a reasonably simple TriCircle lock and picked it reasonably easily
It gave me a little trouble with the spring on the cylinder

Anyway... After picking it, it wont close any more
The shackle wont hold??

Has anyone had this before? Was it from my picking? Or just the lock?
It was securely closed when I got it!?

I've had this happen to me before, it was a cheap lock, when I picked it, I removed my pick and wrench, expecting the plug to snap back to the middle.. it didn't and it lock wouldn't lock until I rotated the plug back to the center... This probably isn't your problem... but I thought it might be worth a mention

that happened to me b4 too, but with a master lock, it happened twice on 2 different locks actually, what happened was that there was a second notch on the other side of the shackle, i thought i broke the lock, then i found that extra notch and all i had to do was pick it again and keep the plug turned then lock it

Ive tried all sorts of things on this lock
I have the key, so that doesn't help either
And I've picked it again too, no good ...

This lock is a cheap make, but wasn't all that cheap
(its a big-arse edition of TriCircle ... heavy to hold)

i found the types of cheap korean and chinese padlocks have very weak latch springs and can easily sieze you may have also snapped the cam/conrtoller on the back of the plug, just thought i'd get my 2 cents in...

Perhaps a bit more detail
Pushing the U-shaped bolt back into the lock causes it to *click* as usual... but letting the bolt go springs it up again.
I'm not too sure of the mechanics of the padlock itself (I usually only care about the pins and cylinder,etc)

Seems like the latch springs might be too weak...

look inside the hole for where the U goes and see if the latch thing is sticking out like it should be, if it aint maybe its caught and thats why it wont lock. or you could try jiggling the plug with your tension wrench

However I tried that, and the latch is fine. Its an odd shape and can swivel.
Honestly I think its a faulty lock - the latch shape causes the bolt to slip off.

perhaps its a lock that must be key-open (picked) to close, then release the key (tension) to relock...

I have a few 'new' locks that I've NEVER used the key.

Well i have a not so cheap lock once and i was picking it but my pick got caught on something at the back i just riggled it out and i though it was fine, I soonber found out I had managed to pull some sort of spring out of its place and this stuffed up everything...I just threw it away and took the pins from it....Mmmmm Pins
