Slim Line picks = universal picks?

Postby Mr. Peach » 22 May 2008 0:53

Hello, i travel alot from the u.s to Europe and my pick set (MPXS-11) becomes useless in Europe...so i was thinking if i get a Slim Line pick set i can use them in the u.s and Europe, in away they become universal. or will it be harder to pick u.s locks.
(p.s my old pick set is worn out, the half diamond pick looks like a toothpick) lol

Thanks for your time,
Mr. Peach

Well I use the MPSX-11 slimline and have had no trouble. Australian locks are very similar to Europe locks (in terms of key way space) and they work wonders.

The only negative about the slimlines are that they tend to bend very easily compared to the standard. So when you get back to the US you could pick with your slimline cos they are universal and then when you get back to Europe you're stuck with a bunch of bend picks.

Of course thats only if you are heavy handed with the tension wrench but I prefer to carry both types in my kit.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

I have found southords slimlines heavy duty enough for everything i've done so far. Now I'm using LN's picks I'm very carefull not to bend them :D [/quote]

I think the non slimline picks are for the heavy handed or then newbie. they have thick shafts so that they can be misused without damage. Think of them as starter sets for newbies

Just what i needed to hear, i been picking locks for about 4 years, i feel i'm lite handed. I only use 5 or 6 different traditional picks so i think I'll buy a slimline set and some new traditional individual picks off southord's website.

Thanks for the help
