Pin Question

Hey everybody, i was just wondering.. In your opinion what type of pins are harder to pick? Serrated, Spool, or Mushroom?

I seem have a tougher time with serrated

Well, I would say spool is harder to pick than a mushroom. Serrated pins I've only run into as driver pins, and those kind of suck too.

I can find and work with spools and mushrooms pretty well, but serrated pins give me headaches.

Serrated pins are a beast! Some American brand padlocks have serrated spool pins! I don't have any other locks with serrated spools to compare these to, but they are pretty hard! I am just glad that I can get them. It takes a long time and you hear a lot of clicks

It really depends on the tolerances of the lock. A sloppy lock with spools may actually feel easier to pick in some cases.

I would like to re-pin these locks up with different security pins so I could give you an even better answer but I am out of cash at the moment.

I had a Best lock that was 7-pin SFIC and I don't think it had any security pins at all. I could pick it consistently, but it always took over 5 minutes and my hand would start to go numb. I would like to see how hard that lock would be with various security pins!? Anyone here pick a Best 7-Pin SFIC with security pins?

I would have to say, retrospectively, serrated.

I have always had a bit of difficulty with the master locks I have tried picking, and last week I got a clue as to why.

A customer needed a large number of padlocks keyed alike and we had to make up the difference with a few universal pin padlocks.

to make a medium story less boring, we must have screwed one up because the customer, while trying one of the keys in the lock managed to pull the entire plug out. in the rain of pins and springs I noticed all of these little rings around the pins....

I feel less bad about having trouble with them now.

as for spool and mushroom pins, I've picked locks with those unknowingly only to have my friend hand me a pile of pins later on after she finishes the re-key....
