scared to buy my 1st set

Postby newbie12345 » 11 Sep 2008 19:12

By placing an order for locksmithing tools, the buyer asserts to be a bonified member of the locksmithing industry or other qualified personnel.

does this mean i have to be a locksmith to buy a set? all the sites ive been too include this right before im going to buy i live in the united states so i dont want to get in a lot of trouble for ordering a set can anyone help me with this?

You should be fine ordering from lockpickshop.com or southord. ukbumpkeys will also sell to the hobbiest. There was one company that refused to send me a set once and that was rapidlocksmith.com but I found the set cheaper elsewhere anyway so didnt mind too much.

Just go for it, those clauses are usually just there to cover their own backs, but as shown, occasionally companies do ask.

The worst that can happen is they refuse and you get your money back, but as i said, lockpickshop or southord are fine.

I am not a lawyer but I would be very surprised if you had any issues. Plenty of people order from the companies I mentioned that live in the US. companies like southord and lockpickshop just want to sell their stuff but must be seen to be taking a responsible approach.

You'll be fine, the only decision really is which set to buy! (I like the C2010)

All the best :)

newbie12345,remain where you are! A SWAT team is on it's way to apprehend you! :D

Sorry, just had to do that! Actually, you don't have to worry about the disclaimer - it's just there so they can cover their butts. It does say ......"or other qualified personnel". So you are studying locks and locksmithing. Just don't go around carrying the picks in your pocket because if you get stopped and searched and can't provide a real good explaination of why you are carrying lockpicks,(like you're a locksmith and have the credentials to show it), they COULD charge you with possession of "instruments of crime". But they'll probably just confiscate them.

i was actually going to order picks but they were for automotive picks so they might have given me some hassle. I spoke to a sales rep and he ssaid i should be fine at worst they jsut wont ship to me and wont charge me. Im a certified mechanic and buy alot of non running cars from auctions that were towed and auctioned by the city but they hardley ever come with keys and i got sick of paying the on the spot locksmith. It's a grey area where i fall under if anything but you should be ok

There is always the option of making them yourself, if your worried about them "getting lost in the mail". there is nothing quite like taking a small piece of metal, grinding and filing and sanding it into a fine tool. Personally, all mine are home-grown and work great. just putting that out there as an option
