verry new to the hobby have bought a goso 27 set of picks and im trying them out so i was trying to pick a squire lp10 and its going well im getting to the point where there barrel is nearly all the way turned round (not verry techy sorry) and what appears to be a sequirty pin kicks in has anyone any advice wether the squire lp10 does have a security pin or am i doing anything wrong.

When you say the barrel is turned almost all the way around, do you mean 180 degrees of turn ? If this is happening then any one of the pins can drop into the key slot. This space is normally occupied by the key.

Not a big deal because you can usually just use your pick to push the pins back up and continue turning. Sometimes it can cause problems if the pin drops in far enough that the spring follows it, so be careful.

Security pins cause their problems in the first few degrees of rotation. Maybe 5 degrees.

Barbarian is correct, that is probably what is happening if you are getting it turned all the way. Also, the piece that rotates is usually referred to as the plug.

If it is only turning a few degrees then you are running into security pins. As stated, if it is turning 180 degrees and stopping then the top pins are falling into the keyway and need to be lifted back into the top chambers using the back of a pick before you can continue to turn the plug.

If you are stuck on a security pin or pins you can go back through the lock and start applying lifting pressure to the pins again and the plug will want to rotate back to the locked position if there is a security pin in the pin position you are applying lifting pressure to. Allow the plug to turn back while maintaining light tension until the pin sets fully. Some pins may reset during this process and will have to be repicked. There are many topics covering this process on the site if you do a search. Once you learn how to deal with them, they really are not that big of a deal for the most part to pick past them.

Could it be that the release mechanism on the shackle isn't spring loaded?

If so then you'll need to pull the shackle out of the casing when the mechanism is fully withdrawn Usually this happens before or at 90 degrees from normal. Moving it further, (towards 180) may actually engage it again. (i've seen this happen on some bicycle locks)

So once you've got it towards a 90 degree turn tug on the shackle and see if it releases.

Else we need clarification of what "nearly all the way turned round" means
