Euro Locks

Postby cass » 26 Aug 2004 9:40

Hi,
I have to ask,as i seem to be going round in circles, but can someone tell me how do i take apart a euro lock,or cant it be done?
also as all i seem to do at present is practice,so what would be the ideal way of drilling out the pins just for practice but im not sure what mm drill bit to use----theres been comments on 2.5mm/3mm(i think thats too small)should it be around 5-6mm to make sure you drill out the pins,so the plug will turn,or have i still not got the point in drilling out the lock.
appreciate any help,thank you

Hi Rockford,
thanks for link, cheers.the only thing is to know what mm drill bit was it!!
it looks like a 3/4 mm bit
so once its drilled out correctly the plug turns and where neccessary lift up handle on door and open?
thats common practice on most upvc doors aint it,wheer you have to lift the handle

Yep - Once you've taken out all the pins, and removed any debris, the plug should turn allowing you to open the door. Don't get hung-up on drill size - try a couple and see which works best for you.

The installed locking mechanism will dictate the role of the handles in the opening/closing.

6mm a good size to use, just make sure you dont split the barrel, ensure its a sharp bit as a burr can cause grief, if you are drilling the sheer line then try using a rake and raking the pins out b4 turning the plug.
