slimline or standard size picks.

Postby boatmaster » 5 Nov 2008 12:20

hello, we are about to order some picks in england.

i saw some slimline picks and some standard size picks.

i hope to pick my sterling disklock padlock on my footlocker, i am in a sick and injury berth dormetary at the moment with another seventeen men at colchester barracks at the moment with 2nd battalion parachute regiment.

i have been reading the posts and will get myself a cheap no-name practise padlock too.

we do a lot of sitting around here as i have a shattered pattela, (smashed up knee.) from a doing a drop, and the rest of the boys here have other bits and pieces wrong with them too.

we were talking (and arguing,) the other night and decided to use the time wisely and learn lock picking.

someone said he could pick a lock with a toothpick, but he turned out to be bullsh**ing.

our c.o said it was a good idea but we will have to be self taught as it is not included in out continuation training as yet.

we are bored shitless here and some of us are going to be here for months.

so if you please help, do we get slimline or standard picks please?

great site guys and a warm thank you in advance from colchester barracks.

Slimline. I've got two sets from Southord, and the slimlines are the only ones I use. If you plan to pick padlocks the slim hooks and diamond fit much easier in there as well.

Also make sure you get ones with handles (metal or otherwise), they are much more comfy to use

This thread will be of assistance if you haven't found it already.

Get well soon :)

I would go slimline as well, I only used to use standard but after getting the slimline I very rarely use them now, I get better feed back from the slimline and you can also use them in tighter key ways, don't forget to get a couple of spare hooks or if you bend or break some.

Definitely slimline if you'll be picking euro locks. You should be able to pick up a number of cheap padlocks/deadbolts to practice on. If there are a group of you it will be even better, as you can pool money together and such.

One note of warning: do not pick locks that you rely on! Footlocker is one example, but picking is addictive and of course leads most everyone to try doors and whatnot; it runs the risk of breaking the lock mechanism and requiring the lock to be, at best repinned and at worst drilled out.

Definitely avoid doing this in the barracks! Just search around the forums for plenty of horror stories :)

thanks chaps,

slimline it is then with a couple of spare hooks. we will make an agrement that if someone breaks one then they will pay for it,some of these blokes aint the most delicate of chaps.

the quatermaster (the store's sergeant.) got wind of it the other day and is now going mad threatning to courtmarshall anyone whosoever looks at his locks.

quite simply it aint worth going to the glasshouse (jail) for.

thanks very much for all the help, we will let you know how we get on.

cheers. 8)
