7 vs 8 vs 10 pin tubular lock pick

Postby keith82687 » 7 Nov 2008 12:07

Hi, my question is: Will a 10pin work for a 7 and 8 pin and will an 8 pin work for a 7 pin? Are the pins still in the same alignment or are each (the 7 8 and 10 pin lock picks) needed for each different type of lock? *note* this is for tubular lock picks!

The pins wont line up, so you cant get a 10 pin pick and use it on the other locks, there is a tubular pick you can get which you can change the tips on so it will fit tubular locks with differant pin configurations.

Or you can buy them seperatly

I'm not sure about the quality of these pick because I have only used a HPC one, but even though the Peterson one is more expencive than buying the 3 Southord ones I would probably still get it.

Seven and eight pin ace locks are divided into eight sections, the seven pin uses one section to mount a lockstem pickup. the eight pin lock puts this pickup between two of the sections,

you are not normally going to encounter the tenpin tubular, although the master bike cuff locks have somthing like that, (ive never had one of these locks to examine, except for one locked to a bike rack that I frequently pass on the south west quad of the corner of 15th and Nicollet ave. for those in the twin cities.)

If you are thinking about buying lockpicks for the oddball ace locks, heres a tip after you get the 7 pin pick that you will need, get the 8 pin pick and this will pick the 8 pin, and also the seven pin offset right, and the sevenpin offset left each of which some places will try to sell you a separate pick for. The 8 pin pick will pick the 7 pin offsets, no problem.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
