Dimensions of the tubular picks

Postby Stianbl » 26 Nov 2008 19:31

Hi there folks,
If this has been answered before I'm sorry. Please direct me to the right thread. :)

If not, then my question is what the dimensions of the different tubular locks (picks) is.

I was thinking of maybe making my self some of these, since they cost a lot on the internet.
Any info would be great, as I aint got any of those locks for myself yet. =/

Thanks for the reply mate:) Ye, that really helps :) I need to get materials, and so far I dont know what to use for the body (the main cylinder).

But I'v got a problem. I aint got any tubular locks or keys. So I actually dont have any idea what dimensions I have to use, or anything of that. When I'v got that, I might be able to make something :)

btw: whats mostly used? 7&8 ? are there any other that I should take into consideration? (I wont kame a pick for a key thats only used in 1 of 100000 cases of tubulars) Not yet at least :)

the interior diameter (id) and outside diameter, (od) are easily copied from a key. If you can have a locksmith cut a key to the 8th depth all seven places, this will make a good start for pickmaking,
its pretty hard to make a good pick if you don't have the lock.

Use search and you can find various explanations of people making their on tubular picks, If you look at www.redteam.org/raimundo/DSCN2425 there is a photo that shows a small tubular pick made from a key, the sliders are hairpins, theres a lot in the photo, so you'll have to look for it, the handle is black fimo.

Thanks :)

I'v been looking over a lot of these diy topics. Will try to get my locksmith to cut me a key. But I dont even know if they have those keys there. We dont have one big locksmith with all the keys and machines. We only have random folks who cuts keys to our house. :P AT least here in Grimstad. Like, go into a paint shop, and ask for a key cutting. They have the machine to cut standard keys there, but no idea if they got any other equipment.
