MASTER LOCK unpickable ??

Postby mandelbrot27 » 16 Dec 2008 15:13

I've been trying to pick this Master lock for months, if you look at the key, pins 1 and 2 (brown and green) are in the way ive tryed useing a hook to get over the top of them or do i need to start at the back and work forward not worrying about pins 1 ans 2 until i get to them? Should i pick it in this position (pins facing up as in picture or the pins at the top facing down (letting the driver pins lock and the key pins to drop away?) i have picked it twice, but it was luck. It's just not happening!!
Can anyone give me any help? Does anyone know this Master lock and it's model number and such like ease of picking?are these key types(pin sequence) harder to pick? Thanks

it may be security pins. Master locks are hard beginners locks because the pins are too small id start on a kwikset door knob.

I have a lock sort of like that one. The keyway is very small. It's hard to single pin pick, but if I put a rake in and wiggle it once or twice the lock pops open. I don't think mine has any security pins.

that key looks evil for a beginner.

I don t think either it has security pins, and I agree with Barbarian that raking would be more successful. But then again, look at the difference on the key..!
I think it s just too difficult for beginners...
Happy Picking!

Thanks for the response, i've been picking for about a year and a half, so im not a complete beginner.
Thinking about it, i think it has high-security drivers, when attempting to pick the lock the plug rotats a fraction (like it's going to turn) then the driver pin (spool pin) catches.
so if this master _ _ _ _ has spool drivers, what is the best technique's to pick them.
Ease off on the tension? Thanks for the help guys. This site is great :D

yes i think 100% security pins! I found this video on youtube and as mentioned in the above post the plug starts to turn but stops

Any techniques for security pins please to end my 4 month persistence.

I WILL NOT GIVE IN

So because you can't pick it, it must be because it's packed full of security pins? I think a lot of it has to do with your experience and technique. Those locks don't usually have more than 1 or 2 spool pins, but not all 4. I noticed your first cut is very deep. When you're picking this lock, just go under that pin and don't even touch it. Perhaps you've been lifting that pin and once you lift it even a little bit, picking the other 3 pins doesnt make a difference, you're always blocking the plug by overlifting the 1st key pin (the one closest to the face of the lock)

use a medium hook and go underneath that pin, and try top of keyway tensioning to give you more room to ferret underneath.

Cheers,

Great Thanks alot for that info. Sorry i think you misunderstud me, when i said 100% S pins, i meant i think it's defently got S pins (people in other post before said they thought it didn't have them).
The lock on youtube is alot smaller than my one and the key way is alot bigger.

I had a look on a hardware store site http://www.screwfix.com and came up with this.

70mm KASP BRASS SHUTTER LOCK. 5 pin cylinder with anti-pick mushroom pins and a paracentric keyway.

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/21082/Sec ... -Lock-70mm

Does anyone know what a PARACENTRIC keyway is?

Is yours as easy to bypass as the one in the video? Yours looks like a Master in the pics not a Kasp like the one you found online.

It is a keyway which has at least one warding protruding over the keyway centerline.

I think you could be right, looking at the screw fix store, i did find this one

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/52477/Sec ... dlock-63mm

The other lock i found (kasp)doesn't have the same key colour and the logo is to the side, which i didn't notice.

One thing i don't get is the measurment 63mm or 70mm (on the other) i don't know what this measurment is as you can see on the dimensions below (two left side measurments are 54mm, 30mm.)

My technique has been to go over the first pin with a hook as stated in previous post.
but i'm definitely comming across the sudden movment of the plug, then it stops? S pins ?
Maybe theres no S pins ! i've picked lots of your basic locks some alittle harder than others but i've always managed to pick them, but this baby im sure it's been, longer than 6 months maybe even 14 months.

If only it was as easy as the guy on the youtube video ! I've tryed light pressure on the wrench whilst picking, i've tried lifting all the pins together and then dropping them with alittle light rotation, i've tryed with a hook going over the first pin (because of key shape) whilst looking at the key, visualizing whats going on inside the keyway being methodical, meticulous.

Well i'll continue on. Maybe it's my skill level
Maybe it has spools.(which i've never came across them before)
probabley both! :? :?
