Start by reading the guides in these forums. They will help you figure out what is useful for using as a pick and what is not. They'll also give you descriptions of what you are feeling for when picking, and tips on how to handle different problems you might run into along the way.

Since you can’t order off the internet, another way is to make your own tools. A great link on this site would be

If you can't keep track of keys what makes you think you will be able to keep track of lockpicks?

First and foremost: don't pick locks that you rely on. Doors to your home, vehicle, even you shed should be left alone.

Like above poster said, making you own is a good route to take.

When I first started off. I used hair pins. They worked great, for the easy locks. But when it came to door locks they were a pain in the neck. My recent tools I made using hack saw blades, a grinder to grind it to shape and water, to quench hot metal.. Oh and dont forget safety glasses.. The hacksaw blades are stronger than steal/ stainless steal. Because its carbon steal.. Carbon bonding etc. Here are some ideas of how the hacksaw blade should look like after grinding viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17326..
I made my lockpick case out of ducktape and papper.. Hope this helps
