Combination Padlock Recommendation Needed (No Master Lock!)

Postby JakFrost » 13 Feb 2009 14:07

I'm looking for a combination padlock recommendation for a simple padlock to use at the gym for my locker but one that is not made by Master Lock. It sounds like a simple request but it isn't.

I've been searching on Google for combination padlocks and and I all come across are Master Lock brand combination padlocks. When I eliminate "Master Lock" from myqueries all I get are luggage locks, notebook lock cables, gun locks, etc. I visited my local retailers and hardware stores to find a lock all I found was Master Lock brand combination locks.

When I crosscheck the Master Lock combination padlock model numbers like 175, 653, etc. against known weaknesses it appears that they are quite trivial to pick and most of these locks have videos on YouTube demonstrating the weaknesses for everyone to follow. I would like to avoid having my stuff stolen from a locker after someone discovers these YouTube videos and decides to have some fun at the gym.

I came across these combination locks below but I'm also looking for other people's recommendations.

I might just have to give up on the idea of a combination padlock and buy a keyed padlock instead.

I live in Canada and the best combination padlock ive bought was a dudley padlock. Actually I think every school has those locks. I don't know where you live but take a look.

Wait for a new lock by Master Lock called "Axis" - probably avaliable in May; that one will be more diffult to manipulate.

Check with any lock shops near you for American brand locks. Even though Master bought American a few years ago, the old American locks are still around and are much tighter than Master. Also consider Sargeant and Greenleaf or the Corbin Sesamee.

Anybody want to trade a Dudley for an American PM me.

myself, I prefer abus over a master. Anything can be bypassed by one way or another, some are just a little harder, or take a little longer.
