Old American core ID help

Postby ToolyMcgee » 19 Mar 2009 10:25

I bought this core from a shop owner who had no idea what it is for. I could not resist the old keys and good biting. It is missing the plug retaining plate, but no big deal to fix that. I've got it shined up and in top working order already, but don't know what lock body to search out to really bring it back to life as a padlock. I could use the keys to repinn another lock, but can't break up the original keys from the core without the shame of failure. Original is what I need, but I just don't have enough reference on american locks to effectively search out the older lock parts. If anyone knows a series number or has an idea of a padlock body it might fit, then please throw it out there so I can search on it.

The pin on top is spring loaded. 6 pinstacks.
The back of the core, the side, and the keys.

If it's an American core, i'd say slap it into an American 5260 body since they can accomodate 6 pin cores unlike the American 5200s.

I wish a 5260 would work, but it won't. None of the american model locks with trap doors, or retaining screws will work. Thank you though.

So it is... now I just have to find a 600 series orphan lock body in good condition for a great price. That should be easy, right? I thought about trying a master lock solid body, but even if it did work I think it might actually be a sin to do so. Thanks for the info, it's going to save me alot of searching.

Tooly, that cylinder looks exactly like the ones that were in the Hurd 716 padlock, the round body ones with the thick shackles. Similar to the American 700 series. It looks like it would fit an Abus 83/45 padlock but that isn't the original.

I actually think I know the old as dirt Hurd you are talking about. Comparing it to the 700 helped. Thanks!

I thought that Abus 83/45 padlocks only held larger sized cylinders?
