Not a locksmith?

Postby g0ds4v3tehqu33n » 14 Apr 2009 1:07

I've poked around some, searched the forums some, but I've yet to find an answer.
Before purchasing some picks online, I noticed the phrase " The buyer by placing an order asserts to be a bona fide member of the locksmithing industry" tends to be in every terms of service.
What if you're not a locksmith, and just enjoy locksport? Are there any sites that cater to that?

And he should. Her beard is out of control.........

To answer the OP's question, the sites say that to release them from liability. They will sell you picks, but if you live in an area where they are illegal or use them for crime they are not responsible.

I've been buying lockpicks and other related tools off of spy catalogs and websites like http://www.LockPicks.com since as far back as 1999/2000 with no locksmith license and I have never gone to jail for something silly as just possession of burglery tools.

If you're in the US take a look at one of the stickies in the General Info forum that lists each states various laws on the matter. 99% of the time owning lockpicks just for fun with no criminal intent is no problem. I mean heck, if it were then locksports probably wouldn't have gotten this big this fast so don't worry about it, it'll be apples.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
