double tension wrench

Postby mongrel » 11 May 2009 11:00

hi guys,

I would like to ask why are there lockpickers who are fond of sticking two tension wrenches in a single keyway while picking? Also, I have seen others who sticks something of like a paper clip on the keyway?

I have seen this on google and the people using this are the more advanced lockpickers.

Different types of locks need different strategies.

It is probably not two tension wrenches, but one tension wrench and a tool to bypass another component. This is pretty regularly used against a few different high security locks.

Ah, the paper clip! I never thought I'd have paperclips in my pickcase, but I can't live without them. For locks where the warding is "undercut" at the bottom on the lefthand (assuming clockwise rotation and US lock orientation) I stick a paperclip in the little cutout. This keeps the wrench from camming under the ward and jamming against the shell. Using paperclips or other more professional bits of metal is a way to even out the walls of the keyway to provide more uniform torque/tension. (And while there are bypass tools as datagram mentioned, I have used a second tension wrench as well to improve keyway grip)

I'll sometimes use a second tension wrench to turn a lock after it's picked too. Something beefier than the little thing I needed to make room in the keyway.

I always wonder why they use two tension wrenches
maybe just like adrenalynn said
Different types of locks need different strategie
i have never used two tension wrenches
but i have used the tension wrenches in the upper side of the keyway
opposite way of the keyway works for me
but never used two tension wrenches
maybe i should give it a try and see if works.

Normally for double sided locks like car locks, you would normally use double sided tension wrenches like this one http://www.hawleylocksupply.com/Merchan ... y_Code=TAE .
