Trying to identify this lock.

Postby cape45 » 22 Jun 2009 16:47

This lock was on my house and I am looking for a replacement for it.
The distance between deadbolt and latch is 4". The handle and plate mechanism are all that is left. I've gone to 2 locksmiths and they've never heard of anything other than 5 1/2 center to center. (Even I was able to find plenty of 3 5/8 center to center handlesets.)
I'm hoping someone has can identify what this is and if there is a replacement for it.
thanks.

If I am not mistaken that is a Schlage Wafer lock, or a knockoff of one anyways. Without being there in person, you may have a lockset that is for an interior door, or you may have an interior door as an entry door to your house, I have seen this before! that may explain the measurments. You might want to find a new lockset for that door, an upgrade.

The lock is made by Schlage and the interconnecting plate serves to unlock the deadbolt when the inside handle is turned. I believe it is a "G" series lock

That was it!
Knowing who made it and that it was an 'Interconnected" lock made it easy to locate a new one.
Thanks!

Looks like a Schlage H series to me...

It is an H series.

Numerous ways to tell them apart but the easiest, considering the picture, is to take note of the shape of the housing and linkage. G series had a rounded, almost oval shape top; H series has the rectangular shape pictured above.

Another way to tell them apart is that G series had an interconnected latch/bolt, H series does not.
