Number Combination Lock Problem

Postby Jerbz » 30 Sep 2004 6:09

Hey this is my first thread. I used the search button but couldnt find any helpful responses. Prolly coz i dunno what to search for :s . Well, one of the gates at my house has a lock. It has a number combination where you press 4 numbers in, squeeze a little 'button' at the bottom and it opens. Well it rained and rained and rained and rusted the lock over :( . I can push in the buttons but cant press the button in. The answer will probably be no, but is there another way i can open it? Or is the lock forever stuffed?

prolly forever stuffed! :)

Apparently that lock didn't take the elements too well. I'd cut it off.

Since the lock is a loss anyway... wouldn't hurt to try WD-40 or some light mineral oil... although not recommended for general lock servicing, it may get the lock to operate enough to remove and replace it.

Good luck.

Yep, there is a cure.

You have the first part already. WD-40.

The second is that ever popular companion, the tool nobody should be without, friend to carpenter, mechanic and locksmith alike.....

THE HAMMER!

That's right. Grab some WD and the hammer and losen up that button. Get the lock to open, and then use the hammer and the lock for something resembling arial polo. See if your coordination is good enough to get that lock to sail as far as it can go.

Then, go buy something that won't rust when you leave it outside.

Happy hammering,

Well, what they keep telling me is that it isn't so much the number of posts I make, but how LONG they are.

Just think, you might have gotten one of my essay responses.

oh god, now that would of sucked :P . You would of told me all about the origin of 'lock hitting with a hammer' and how it became an olympic world renowned sport. Telling me the types of training and fitness i would have to endure to become good at it :? Just thinking about it makes me hurl!!

Yeah, that's as good a response as any.

I don't know about the olympic sport thing though.

If you have a hard time reading it, imagine what I go through writing it? :?

Good luck with that rusty lock of yours. Oh, and hitting locks with hammers? The Phonecians invented that technique I think. Something to do with the Egyptians I believe.

Take care,
