How do you pronounce Schlage?

Postby MrB » 6 Oct 2004 16:41

Silly question perhaps, but I haven't a clue.

Never heard anyone say the name, so I tend to see it as a German word, pronounced something like Schl-ah-gge. But probably not, huh?

I think I saw someone rhyme it with engage, but that might just have been poetic license.

Or it could be Schl-ar-j?

Help me please before I say it out loud to someone and get a funny look...

Google is your friend
The search engine is your friend :?
But I'm your friend, too :D

Try http://consumer.schlage.com/ or http://consumer.schlage.com/sayschlage.aif
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

I never thought anyone would say that to me  but thanks.

I did go to their home page but I missed that little thing in the top left-hand corner.

So it was none of my three options, huh? Trust them to be funny. There is no way I can come up with that pronunciation in either English or German (but my German is negligible, so I could be wrong there).

Actually, no: you need to follow the links helpfully provided by PickPick.

Apparently, the official pronunciation is shl-ay-g.
