Doesn't make sense

I don't understand why the kits with more cost less than the sets with less.

http://southord.com/Lock-Picking-Tools/ ... ndard.html

The 2nd set costs more than the 4th set wich has more, the 5th set costs more than he 4th and the 4th has grips, the other doesnt. I'm very confused

Its marketing, trickyness and reverse psychology, You can go to targhetto and see flash drives with four gigabites selling for 19 dollars on the aisle, and 9.99 on the end of the aisle, if you are looking for a flash drive, youll buy one in the aisle, for 19 dollars and if your just passing by, they will sell that very same one for 9.99 from the end of aisle display, the customers never complain, the ones who get wise to it just shop the ends of the aisles and buy the bargain, they'll never lose a single customer, everyone knows that life is a rigged game.

Personally I'd say it's because more people tend to buy the larger sets, so they actually make a much larger profit by selling the slightly larger sets for less. For every 8 piece set they sell, they probably sell 3-4 of the 14 piece sets... you get the idea. The difference in the manufacturing costs is marginal, so it makes perfect sense to sell more for less. Like raimundo said, simple marketing.

Some sets sell more than the others -> bigger lots ordered from the manufacturer -> cheaper price per set.

It's the no handle - rubber handle - metal handle. Most people prefer the metal handles .

hahah cant believe it took 4 replies for someone to notice the handles!
Those metal handles cost more per pick than plastic tubing.

I'm pretty sure everyone noticed the handles. The reason nobody mentioned them is because they cost virtually nothing extra to manufacture, as it's just a little slip case added over the handles for "extra grip".

I believe that if you flatten a bic biro plastic pen barrel with of course the inner parts removed, you can slip this flat two sided plastic sleeve over a common handleless pick and it will tighten down as it tries to regain some of the round shape the molecules were stable at before the pressure. this makes a nice handle sort of oval () in cross-section.

Recommend that if you do this, do it in a warm room, not in the cold as plastic has changeable working characteristics.

It has nothing to do with the black plastic handles, it has to do with the actual handle of the pick itself. Look at the part numbers, the "M" designation means they have the reinforced handles (ie thick metal). The standard ones with just the cheap plastic handles are essentially just stamped out picks (no reinforced handle) with little plastic covers that slip over them. Hence the price difference.

This is exactly it. It's impossible to tell from the pictures, but the slipcovers are put over the picks because they probably don't want you to notice that the picks are completely unreinforced by a "normal" handle. If you ask me, the metal handles are absolutely worth the increased price.
