Why is drilling a lock called the Bulgarian method?

This seems an interesting name to me. Any particular reason it's called that?

I don't know this for sure in regards to lock picking but Bulgarian methods are used a lot in fitness regimes etc and denotes something that requires intense strength and/or speed. So i think it relates to heavy handedness (brute force) and speed as opposed to finesse and technique.

However this is just my understanding.

If you're doing it on the back door isn't it called Greek?

The Bulgarian Method Is A Method Used To Kill Trees Safely By Drilling A Couple Holes Near The Trunk. I Do Not Know When But The Term Seems To Have Transferred Over To Lock Picking.

Tree's cant be killed by drilling. They are killed by having the drilled holes filled with something (nitrogen, salt etc).

My friend is a professional tree surgeon and when i asked him about this. he seemed to think that drilling tree's probably took the name 'Bulgarian' from drilling locks as killing trees this way is hardly used. its mainly done via girdling.

So again there seems to be a link between the finesse way of doing things (girdling) and the quick and nasty way (drilling)

A Series Of Holes At The Trunk Would Starve The Tree Of Water And Kill The Tree. I Didn't Say It Was The Most Popular Tree Killing Method Or If It Was Still Being Used At All But That Is How It Relates To Lock Picking

No it wouldn't, a tree hasn't got veins or arteries. if this was to kill a tree it would be by bacteria etc entering the deep wound into the inner xylem and thus kill the tree.

Apparently they drill the holes then come back at a later event and just push the tree over because it has rotted so much. I do not know if it has anything to do with bacteria but it's a possibility.
