Schlage cylinder caps

Postby hannah12 » 26 Feb 2010 11:24

I help out in the locksmith shop at work part time. We only use Yale locks. So I thought I could easily re-key my New Schlage locks at home. I am repinning my Sclage F-Series door knobs at home to be keyed alike but I am having trouble getting the spring caps to fit tight again. Is there a trick to getting them to fit tight or is there a tool to recrimp them. I tried new ones and they do not stay on well either.
Thanks
Rick O'

If I have to reuse the cap, I will rebend the teeth with a pair of needle nose pliers, and slightly crimp the cap so it is a tighter fit. Works usually, but it can be a pain sometimes.

Best way is to not remove it in the first place I have found.

Are you using the springs and t-pins that came with the lock?

Best way is to use a plug follower to repin, that way you don't have to mess with the springs or top pins, unless you want to add some spools, or new pins or springs, then just plug follow, then dump them.
