How to unlock a deadbolt if it was picked the wrong way? :(

So I was messing around with one of my deadbolts (it's punched into a piece of wood) and I'd hate to have to rip it apart..

I had the deadbolt in the "locked" position (with the deadbolt out), and I picked the plug in the same direction as the bolt

Now I can't use the latch on the other side to close it (it jams) and I can't spin the plug back (it's facing up-side down and won't spin either way, and the pins seem to be stiff..)

How would I go about closing it again without destroying it

I searched and I found this, as well as one other post.. but in these posts they were able to push the pins down and turn the plug. I kept trying this, but the pins are extremely stiff to the point where pushing on them does nothing (am i pushing the wrong ones down?)

silly goose.. you dont know how locks work quite well.. you'll get there.. you are not pushing the pins that you can see when you look into the keyway.. those are the key pins, they arent doing anything at the moment. the problem is that the driver pins that are in the body of the lock are poking down into the keyway from the top. You have to put the back of a tension wrench up there and push them all up at the same time, and use another wrench to try to turn the plug while you are pushing the pins all back up into the bible/shell.

I have a somewhat outdated pic I made for someone else a few years ago.. your lock may not have the yellow master wafer in it, but I bet the red one is hanging down. you need to push the red one up, all of them. You've probably been trying to push down on the green ones, and I guarantee they're not going anywhere.

I found the driver pins on the "top" (the bottom, but it's upside down) in the back just before the end of the of the key way, and I pushed them up using the bottom side of a pick and applied some tension in the opposite direction. I heard a "click" then the latch (the little turn-y thing on the other side of the lock) on the other side fell sideways (before it was stuck at a 45 degree angle, now it's perfectly horizontal).

I can turn the latch just a little more now, but still can't unlock

you will probly need to take it back to 180 and make sure it all goes back where it came from,could we get a picture of how it looks though the keyhole or have you got the lock on a door

w00t! I figured it out!

I wasn't touching the driver pins apparently, I was confused with a spring that was located in the back (maybe something that has to do with the actual deadbolt )

Regardless, i realized that there was a bar separating the key way from the driver pins. I stuck a half diamond pick in there (the smallest pick i have on me that would fit) and I raked backwards while putting very light tension in the opposite direction and "pop" the lock turned

It's now fully functioning again!

Now this raises a new question for me.. the driver pins are only exposed like that if the plug has been turned right?

You can't just rake/pick the driver pins and cause the plug to turn, correct?

How I Solved The 180 Stuck Lock Curse by L0k1

Hi, this is my first post here after much reading.
I recently had this same problem of the cursed 180 stuck lock on my backdoor deadbolt. I had been practicing locks for about a month or so, and gotten locked out of my own house.
I could have easily gone thru a window ( I have big bad dogs inside, so I don't worry too much), but had a brand new Octorake in the car that had arrived in the mail that morning...
I had read the warnings against picking one's own door locks but thought, hey, I'm pretty well practiced on padlocks and door locks, so I'll give it a go...
Octorake and a little tension, rock 'n wiggle, 8 seconds door opens.
After my initial joy and greetings by jumping, hyper excited dogs, I realized that I couldn't lock the deadbolt.
The bolt wouldn't go back out!
My gf would be pissed!
My new obsession would be frowned upon.
More importantly, my own new feeling of self confidence was seriously challenged.
I must fix the back door.
After trying everything listed here and on YouTube, picking/pushing with a shorthook, reverse raking with diamonds, flat edged dual tension bars, etc...
I solved it pretty simply and effectively without using anything in my lockbox...
Before I tell how I solved this annoying puzzle, I was wondering how often does this happen? Is this a common problem? How best can it be avoided? Many thanks in advance.

I fixed the backdoor lock. After much attempts at picking, I went the complete other way. Unscrewed the lock from doorframe, inserted the key while wiggling the latch thingy and viola! reassembled locking mechanism and got my door 'secured'.
There's always another way to whatever problem... oftentimes, much simpler.
I didn't see this way mentioned on any forums...
But being the maintenance man of 6 hotels... you 'pick' up a couple of tricks.
